Size and Performance

Though technically a "subcompact" crossover, the New Corolla Cross straddles the boundary of the subcompact and compact classes. It's larger than the Toyota C-HR but smaller than RAV4, giving the Corolla Cross ideal dimensions for a roomy and versatile interior while maintaining city-friendly maneuverability.

Under the hood, a 2.0-liter Dynamic Force four-cylinder engine sends 169 horsepower to the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission. The Direct Shift transmission is precisely tuned for responsive performance while achieving an EPA-estimated 32 mpg in combined city/highway driving.

For enhanced handling and control in inclement conditions, the Corolla Cross offers available all-wheel-drive, paired with a fully independent rear suspension and Toyota's Dynamic Torque Control system. The AWD system's sophisticated power provisioning enables sure-footed traction without losing much efficiency, achieving an estimated 30 mpg combined.

Design and Accommodations

Built on Toyota's TNGA-C platform, the Corolla Cross offers easy approachability and entry and gives drivers a higher vantage point. The bold exterior is highlighted by a muscular stance, protective lower cladding, and an assertive front fascia with a distinctive black grille and narrowed headlight clusters.

On the inside, the Corolla Cross is roomy and refined, sharing several attributes with its sedan and hatchback siblings, including available upgrades like a 10-way power driver's seat, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, and SofTex upholstery. Additionally, rear passengers will appreciate the standard second-row HVAC vents, as well as a flip-down center armrest with integrated cupholders (XLE models). The Corolla Cross accommodates up to five passengers with nearly 27 cubic feet to spare for cargo behind the rear seats and even more with the 60/40-split rear seats folded.
