You Can Trust the 2021 Toyota Highlander

The Toyota Highlander at Metro Toyota, now in the second year of its fourth generation, brings you the 2021 three-row midsize SUV. The 2021 Highlander steps on the stage this year, hoping to continue to outsell the competition, and we are very confident that it will. The Toyota Highlander has always had the winning formula all along. Most three-row SUVs are bought for their family-hauling capabilities.

The Highlander provides drivers in Kalamazoo with a spacious cabin, a full list of easy-to-use standard features, excellent power, and solid reliability. This year, the Highlander features a hybrid powertrain, which we are very much excited about. This checks the efficiency box for us, meaning that the new Highlander remains a top pick.

What's New in the 2021 Toyota Highlander?

For 2021, the Highlander has a new, sporty trim called the XSE trim level. You will also enjoy Toyota Safety Sense 2.5 in the latest iteration of this SUV. Also, LED headlights are now a standard feature. This reliable SUV is ready for every adventure in Battle Creek and has plenty of room for the entire family.

What are the New Highlander's Capabilities?

The 2021 Highlander will be primarily powered by two powertrains: a gasoline engine and a new hybrid.  The gasoline engine is a potent 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 295 horsepower to the front wheels. This is an ideal output for a fully-loaded SUV. This power is transmitted via an eight-speed automatic transmission with an optional AWD configuration.

The other option is the new Highlander hybrid, a 2.5-liter I4 engine with two electric motors powered by a nickel-metal hydride battery. This system delivers 243 horsepower to the standard FWD configuration. The hybrid powertrain has a CVT transmission, and once again, the AWD configuration is optional. The hybrid engine is also robust and can tow up to 3,500 pounds. The fuel economy ratings for this powertrain are 36/35 mpg and 35/35 mpg for FWD and AWD, respectively.

Interior Features

The inside of the Highlander is very comfortable, and the technology is very user-friendly. The new Highlander provides comfortable seats with cloth stitching on the lower trims and leather higher up the trim ladder. You can have either a bench or captain's chairs on the second row. The Highlander seats eight passengers with a bench, but the captain's chairs reduce the occupancy to seven.

Adults can sit comfortably in the second and third rows, so you do not have to worry about space while in the Highlander around Paw Paw, MI. The cargo space provided is also impressive, with 16 cubic feet available behind the third row, which swells to 84 cubic feet with the second and third-row folded.

The technology in the Highlander is also excellent and very easy-to-use. The infotainment is accessed through a standard 8.0-inch display or the optional 12.3-inch display. The touchscreen handles most of the functions, including audio and climate controls. Some of the features you can access include Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, satellite radio, and Alexa. There are also auxiliary inputs and USB ports available to connect your phones to the car's system when driving around Portage, MI.

Exterior Features

The Highlander comes back in 2021 bigger than its predecessor. The new Highlander is taller by a couple of inches and rides on a longer wheelbase. This translates to more cabin room, which enhances the ride quality. A black grille graces the front end with Toyota's oval at the center. Flanking this will be two LED headlights, and down below are air inlets that suggest that the Highlander is ready to perform around Three Rivers, MI. The lower trims get 18-inch alloy wheels while the higher trims ride on 20-inch wheels.
